Artemiev vs Tabatabaei | Opposite Colored Bishops Endgame

Published 1/5/2026

Hello guys! Today we will be taking a look at a game played between GMs Artemiev and Tabatabaei in the recent 2025 World Rapid Chess Championship. Starting out with a Queens Gambit Declined, the game quickly transposed into an endgame where Artemiev was up a pawn but had a different color bishop. Eventually, Artemiev was able to win the game and ended up winning the silver medal.

Let’s take a look at how he was able to win:

What impressed me the most is that throughout the entire endgame, Artemiev was playing with only a few seconds left, relying on the increment. Even with such little time, he was able to show great endgame technique. I hope you guys enjoyed the game, and if you have any suggestions or questions, leave them in the comments below. Have a great day 🙂
