Hi everyone! Today we’ll be looking at a game played very recently between GMs Pichot and Pranesh in Round 8 of the Fujairah Global Superstars. Pichot played the Italian which is usually known for its solidness as an opening. However, Pranesh played g5 very early on in the opening, resulting in a very sharp game that ultimately ended in just over 20 moves.
Let’s take a look:
Key takeaways from the game:
- You should always be cautious of playing these g5 ideas against the Italian especially if your bishop isn’t on g7. Oftentimes it’s very easy for white to break in the center and cause problems for black.
- When you play against this g5 idea with white, always look for the d4 break in the center even if you lose a pawn. Oftentimes you will have enough compensation.
