One Wrong King Move Decides the Game

Published 8/24/2025

Hi everyone! Today I’ll be covering a recent game played in the Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2025 between GM Iniyan and IM Chakraborty. In the middlegame stage, Chakraborty was able to outplay his opponent. Eventually, they reached an endgame where he was up a full piece. However, as you will see very soon the conversion was anything but simple and GM Iniyan posed some difficulties.

Let’s take a look at the game:

The game was a very instructive example of not only how important king moves are in an endgame, but also to never give up! Many players would just accept that they are completely losing down a full piece, but Iniyan kept playing and his opponent made a mistake eventually.

I hope you guys enjoyed this game and learned something new. If you have any suggestions on what you want me to cover next time, leave a comment below. Have a great day 🙂
