Surprise Weapon against the Semi-Slav Defense

Hello everyone! Today I will be discussing a very interesting line against the Semi-Slav. I’ve personally known about this line for a while and have used it in quite a few blitz games. If your opponent doesn’t know what they are doing, you might be able to pick up some quick wins!

Here is a sample line of how you get to the critical position after 8.Rg1!? It is important to note that there are other move orders that will also lead to this position. 

Let’s take a brief look at some of the main and most challenging continuations in response to 8.Rg1:

As you can see, the line often leads to very dynamic and sharp positions. The main lines after 8.Rg1 lead to approximately equality, but it’s very likely that your opponent won’t know the entire line and will make a mistake of some sort along the way. It’s important to note that an important idea in some of these variations is to play long castle so you can provide adequate shelter for your king while you launch an attack.
